Visa

If you require a visa, please familiarise yourself with the regulations well in advance. You should apply for a “Multi Entry Schengen Visa,” which will allow you to enter not just the Netherlands but also Germany if you plan to fly to a German airport or book accommodation there. We can provide you with an invitation letter and other assistance; please contact us here.

Health insurance

If your health insurance doesn’t cover the costs of medical treatments in the Netherlands (or European Union) you will need a travel health insurance. It is not costly and you will need it for the visa application.

Accommodation and transportation

Our events take place at our campus in Vlodrop-Station (check the address above), and lodging is available in nearby hotels and bungalow parks.

Driving to the campus, with your own or a rented car, is a convenient way to get there since MERU is located within Meinweg National Park, which is a bit remote.

For many courses, we will arrange transportation from select hotels to the campus. Please check the course description or get in touch with us (see contact form below) to learn more about this.

Travelling from Germany

One of the most convenient ways to reach our campus is by flying into Düsseldorf Airport and then taking a taxi or renting a car to get here. Düsseldorf Airport is approximately an hour’s drive from Vlodrop-Station.

Participants have successfully used the taxi service provided by Rabbit Cab, which you can find at https://www.rabbitcab.nl/ or contact them at +31 47 576 9149. Another option is Taxi Flotax at www.taxiflotax.com/en/ or +31 475 231 498, and Taxi 4 Airport at https://www.taxi4-airport.de/en/ or +49 178 66 45 854. We recommend comparing the current prices of these and other providers.

If you prefer a more economical but longer journey, you can take a train from Düsseldorf Airport to Dalheim, with a connection in Mönchengladbach Hbf. Once you arrive in Dalheim, it’s about a thirty-minute walk to Vlodrop campus, which is quite pleasant in good weather. You can save money by booking your train tickets online in advance through this website. When booking on bahn.com, select the train station with the single word ‘Dalheim.’

Travelling from the Netherlands

Another popular travel option is to fly into Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and then take Dutch trains to Roermond. Typically, there’s one stop in Utrecht during the journey. The trip from Amsterdam Airport to Roermond takes a little over two hours. Once you arrive in Roermond, you can take a taxi to reach the MERU campus in Vlodrop, which is about a twenty-five-minute drive away.

Alternatively, you can fly into Eindhoven or Maastricht airports, which are closer to Roermond than Amsterdam but have fewer flight connections.

To plan your travel within the Netherlands to Roermond, you can visit the Dutch transportation website.

You have the option to book a taxi ride in advance with Rabbit Cab or take one of the available taxis at the Roermond train station.

Alternatively, you can take the line 62 bus from Roermond Station to Vlodrop, Herkenbosserweg. You can check the bus schedule here. Please contact us in advance to inquire whether we can arrange to pick you up at the bus station.

Travelling from Belgium

The largest airport in Belgium is Brussels Airport. From there, you have several options to reach MERU.

You can take the train to Maastricht, and then the train to Roermond. To plan your journeys, you can use both the Belgian train website and the Dutch transportation website.

Alternatively, you have the choice of taking an affordable Flixbus from Brussels Airport to Roermond, which typically operates once per day.

From Roermond, the most convenient way to reach our Vlodrop campus is by taking a taxi. You can book a taxi ride with the Dutch taxi company Rabbit Cab or simply take one of the cabs available at the Roermond train station.

Alternatively, you can take the line 62 bus from Roermond Station to Vlodrop, Herkenbosserweg. You can check the bus schedule here. Please contact us in advance to inquire whether we can arrange to pick you up at the bus station.

Planning your trip back home

As there is no wi-fi and spotty phone reception on campus, it’s ideal to plan your trip before you arrive, using the above information.
If you need to call a cab from campus, you’re welcome to ask the security guard at reception to call a taxi for you.

Meals at the MERU campus

Meals are provided in the dining halls. A separate course dining hall is available for lunch and dinner for course participants.

The meals are usually not included in the course fee. Please check the course description.
