About the course

For many years, students, teachers and practitioners have been asking for a dedicated workshop on Sūryanamaskāra. We are delighted to announce that this long-awaited opportunity is now becoming available.

For the first time, selected material from the Maharishi Yoga Āsana Instructor Training Course will be offered as a standalone workshop. Until now, these teachings have been available only within the comprehensive Instructor Training Course.

This workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore Sūryanamaskāra in depth — not only as a sequence of postures, but as a complete practice involving movement, breath, awareness, physiology and tradition. Across three live sessions, participants will explore the principles, practice and deeper understanding of Sūryanamaskāra while engaging directly in the practice itself.

Through a combination of knowledge, experience and guided application, the workshop aims to bring new depth and meaning to this timeless sequence.

What You Will Explore

During this workshop, you will gain a deeper understanding of:

  • Three different versions of Sūryanamaskāra, including one version without inversions that can be practised comfortably by virtually everyone, regardless of age, experience or body type
  • The origins, history and development of Sūryanamaskāra
  • Insights shared by Yogacharyas during the development of the Maharishi Yoga Āsanas 16-lesson course under the guidance of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
  • The purpose and correct performance of every posture within the sequence
  • Principles of alignment, ease and precision in practice
  • The relationship between breath, movement and awareness
  • Common mistakes and simple ways to avoid them
  • The effects of each posture and phase of the sequence on the body and physiology
  • How to adapt and integrate Sūryanamaskāra into personal practice

Throughout the workshop, the teachings will be supported by demonstrations, visual presentations and guided practice.

Learning Through Experience

The workshop will be taught personally by Gudrun Buchzik, Head of the Department of Yoga Therapy – Yoga Āsanas and Prāṇāyāma at the Maharishi College of Perfect Health International.

Drawing on many years of international teaching experience and her work within the Maharishi Yoga Āsanas Department, she will guide participants through both the practical and theoretical dimensions of Sūryanamaskāra.
